2 Types Of Martial Art Club

Based on their business goals, there are 2 types of martial art club:

1. Aerobic Self Defense Club

This club focus on basic self defense training and aerobic exercise for ordinary people (like office worker, artist, chef and other nonathlete professions). No sparring fight or acrobatic dance choreography training here.

Most basic and cheapest club, they don't need extra money to rent big training space, sparring gears, sparring mat or medical fee.

2. Professional Athlete Club

This club focus on hard training for competitive fighting tournament. If you wanna be a professional athlete and get paid, then join here.

Most high budget club, because they need more money to rent big training space, sparring gears, sparring mat and medical fee (high risk of injuries).

Pre-fight Briefing

Pre-fight briefing is mandatory meeting must be attended by all coaches and contestants before fighting tournament, very important to socialize the tournament rules used by the organizer.

There are so many fighting tournament organizers nowadays, with they own personal taste. Those organizers created their own rules based on their personal taste, that why pre-fight briefing is important.

Pre-fight briefing is a must. Here some cases from my experiences in various fighting tournament events since 1996:

1. Some Taekwondo organizers permit all basic punches and kicks (like ITF and WTSDA). Other organizers only permit kicks (like WTF and Kukkiwon).

2. Some Karate organizers use point fighting tournament system (like WKF and JKA). Other organizers use continuous fighting tournament system (like WKC and WFMAF).

3. Some Kickboxing organizers only instruct simple trouser for their event costume. Other organizers instruct japanese obi belt (red vs blue belt or black vs white belt fighting match).

Although there are so many martial art tournament organizers with different personal taste, at least all good martial art tournament organizers are agree with 1 thing: Ban all pressure point strikes and elbow-knee strikes for safety.

2 System Of Fighting Tournament

There are 2 systems of fighting tournament:

1. Points Fighting

Both fighters must score points much as they can until the match time / round is over.

Everytime one fighter score 1 point, stepping outside ring line, touching the ring rope or tripped, the referee will reset both fighters position from the start line again.

2. Continuous Fighting

Both fighters must score points much as they can continuously until the match time / round is over.

The referee only interupt the fight when one fighter stepping outside ring line, touching the ring rope or tripped.

In all tournament systems, 4 judges give the score for each fighters (2 judges watching red glove fighter and 2 other judges watching blue glove fighter). Referee just controlling the fight and make sure both fighters respect the rules.
